In the book " The Disappearance of The Universe " by Gary Renard , he relates watching an interview in which a Buddhist monk was asked how he dealt with going without sex. He replied : "who needs sex when you're always coming ." _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu |

who needs sex...? Posted: October 30, 2008 |

GREAT quote, Russ. That, in a nutshell, is the story of Sexual Enlightenment, which I describe as 24/7 Cosmic Orgasm.
Those familiar with Tantric Buddhism, especially the Tibetan system, know that it is replete with sexual references and symbolism, yet typically involves no explicit sexual activity at all. It works with your sexual energy, which is spiritual energy flowing throughout your body, including the genitals.
Even straight Tantra (non-Buddhist) - the sacred sex tradition of India - has a branch many call 'White' Tantra, which works with the sexual energy without engaging in sex. White represents purity. It is distinguished from Red Tantra, which does rely on sexual practice. Red represents passion. Some also refer to systems that teach both as 'Pink Tantra'.
There is even precedent for this in Christianity. Read the diary of St. Teresa of Avila and the works of St. John of the Cross, including his famous 'Dark Night of the Soul'. (More on them in Sacred Sex from Mid-East to West.)
The idea of celibate sacred sex may have special appeal to Christians and other religious followers raised on the belief that celibacy equals purity, and who have trouble accepting sexuality as a spiritual practice. Working with the sexual energy alone is a good place to start, and to get familiar with how the energy moves & feels in your body. Once you're familiar with it, you easily see how the same energy flow can occur during sex. Sex is neither a hindrance nor required. Simply choose which path works best for you.
It also has value for elderly people who no longer have strong sexual desires. It is a way to reclaim their lost sexual vitality without need of sex itself.
So there is something for everyone -- choose the lifestyle that suits your desires best, and practice with passion...whether it involves sex or not.
The most important point is - and this is key - that you choose your path based on desire, and not some external moral code that claims sex is evil or sinful. Choose the spiritual path you want to follow, because that is the only one you'll stick with and truly practice with passion. And it's that passion - that powerful flow of desire - that is the move of divine energy in you. Denying that passion cuts off the divine flow. It is anything BUT spiritual.
To use a Christian example, trudging off to Church with your tail between your legs is NOT living the Spirit of Christ. The iving Spirit - the never-ending flow of vital energy in you - is the true Passion of Christ.
That is 24/7 Cosmic Orgasm, sexual or not. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |
