Group sacred sex ritual has the power to manifest global awakening through coherent waves of ecstasy.
Sacred sex ecstasy is a coherent state of mind that resonates with like states, amplifying in strength to create global (non-localized) effects. In simple (and more sensuous) language, group orgasm stimulates global ecstasy. Practiced in large enough groups, or a large enough percentage of the population, it can bring about global awakening.
This is more than wishful mystic thinking. Science is coming to verify these facts. Research done on meditative states shows increased brain wave coherence, as measured by EEG. Further research shows that groups of meditators create positive change in their environment, as measured by decreased crime, conflict, war, and other anti-social behavior.
What's more, research suggests that sexual orgasm may be the most powerful 'meditative' state of all. EEG brain wave coherence reaches its peak during sexual orgasm. This means that group practice of sacred sex may be a catalyst for global awakening.
For a more complete explanation and to see research that supports this grand claim, read the Science of Sacred Sex.
The use of sacred sex ritual to benefit society is not new. In fact, it may have the longest tradition in the history of mankind. The ancient Sumerian culture of the Middle East practiced a sacred sex ritual that later came to be known as Hieros Gamos. The rite, in which the whole population participated, was held every spring on the equinox to bring blessings to king, country, and crop. Records indicate that the annual rite lasted over 2,000 years. And scholars speculate that it originated centuries, even millennia, earlier. Some peg the start at around 10,000 BCE, with the advent of agricultural civilization. If that is true, the sacred sex rite lasted over 7,000 years as a tradition.
Of course, the ancients had no science to back up their belief in the value of the rite. They had only their worldview, into which sacred sex fit. But the longevity of the tradition says something itself: tradition that appeals to the masses is more long-lived.
The reason is that they appeal to true human nature. They therefore maintain their appeal generation after generation. Traditions that deny human nature lose their appeal over time, as we see with sex-negative traditions today. (It's worth noting that the sacred sex tradition did not die out; rather the culture was overrun by warring Hebrews with the rise of patriarchal religion.)
That lasting appeal, together with research suggesting that there is real value in the tradition, offers great hope for humanity. By reestablishing the tradition of sacred sex ritual in society, we lay the foundation for a better world for millennia to come.
To learn more about the culture that kept this ritual tradition, read Early Sacred Sex Societies. For text of the ritual itself, read the Hieros Gamos in our Sacred Sex Text Archive.
Aside from ancient Sumer, group sacred sex ritual is described in Tantra, the sacred sex tradition of India, which is thousands of years old.
Common elements of sacred sex ritual, as well as basics on how to perform one, are described in the Sacred Sex Ritual topic in the Lesson Forum. Group rituals deepen, expand, and spread the effect of sacred sex ritual by means of coherence as explained above.
One type of group ritual increases this coherence using sacred geometry. The basics of sacred geometry are also described in the Sacred Sex Ritual topic in the Lesson Forum. Group sacred geometry strengthens the effect.
A simple way to understand this is to think how much more orderly a classroom of children sitting in arranged rows likely behaves, compared to one where they sit randomly in hodgepodge array. Your mind picks up on your environment. When there is order around you, you tend to think and act more orderly. Scientists studying this would find increased brain wave coherence, as explained in the Science of Sacred Sex. When there is disorder and chaos around you, you think and act chaotically.
Using sacred geometry in group rituals is simply a way to increase orderliness (coherence) in the minds of the ritual performers. This then has a reciprocal effect. The increased brainwave coherence of ritual performers strengthens their impact on the environment.
In addition, it deepens their own sacred sex experience, since coherence equates with ecstasy. Brainwave coherence is maximum when the mind is in ecstasy (see Science of Sacred Sex). Greater coherence means deeper, fuller orgasmic ecstasy.
Sacred geometries have their effect because they are pure forms -- circles, triangles, stars, etc. The most common of these used for group sacred sex rituals are the circle, 5-pointed star, and 6-pointed star. In addition to the order produced by arranging a group in a sacred geometry form, each form has symbolic significance, which also effects ritual performers who are aware of it (and maybe even if they are not).
The circle symbolizes the continuous cycle of life. Circular sacred sex rituals are especially good to create a continuous flow of sexual energy and connectedness of the group. The 5-pointed star (sometimes called pentagram or pentacle) represents the five basic elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (spirit). Five is a common number in nature -- we have 5 digits (fingers/toes) on each limb, five senses, and the spread-eagle human body forms a star (with the head as the top point). 5-pointed star rituals are thus excellent for connecting and communing with nature. The 6-pointed star is a powerful sacred sex symbol. The downward pointing triangle, shaped like a yoni and pointing down to mother earth, represents female. The triangle pointing up toward father heaven, like an erect lingam (esp. with two testes below), represents male. The two triangles together represent the union of heaven & earth, spirit & flesh, man & woman. This is sacred sex union. Use of the 6-pointed star in ritual is a powerful sexual symbol.

(from the Tantra tradition of India) |

Below are some common group rituals, including ones using sacred geometry. Remember that in all sacred sex rituals, the key element is experience of extended orgasm (see Sacred Sex Ritual in the Lesson Forum). That is what produces all the benefits and coherent effects. The types of sexual activity engaged in, methods of stimulation used, and sacred geometries employed (if any), are less important, and left to the personal choice of the practitioners.
One common group ritual theme is the Sacred Sex Circle of Desire, also known as Kama Chakra ('Wheel of Desire' in Sanskrit, from the Tantra tradition of India).
The circle can be formed any number of ways, using various means of stimulation:
Sexual Union -
Couples can sit in the Love Seat position (Lesson 3), arranged in a group circle. Detailed positioning may vary. Couples can sit with the men facing out from the circle, while the women look in. This replicates the outward expansion of male essence and the inward return to its source of female essence. It also creates a group goddess effect, as all women will be looking at each other. As boundaries fall away in orgasmic ecstasy, a sense of feminine unity prevails. This positioning is best for traditional couple rituals, where the emphasis is on each couple strengthening their love bond.
Couples can also turn 90 degrees (i.e. sideways) from the above position. In this case, each partner sits with back toward one adjacent couple, while looking at the other adjacent couple. Rather than looking in or out of the circle, everyone looks around the ring. This positioning emphasizes the continuous flow of energy around the ring. Each couple should be positioned the same direction. That is, men face one direction around the ring, and women the other. With eyes open, this creates the unique experience of each partner looking into the eyes of the opposite sex partner of the couple next to them. As above, when boundaries fall away in orgasmic ecstasy, everyone will experience unity both with their own partner and the adjacent partner. This creates a power sexual connection flowing around the ring. This formation is for ritual partners who are not 'couples' (or couples who are in open relationships).
Manual or Oral Stimulation -
The circle can also be formed by alternating men & women in lying or semi-reclining positions (pillows can be used). As in the second example above, everyone looks around the ring, only here, both genders face the same direction. One way is for the men to lie on their backs (typically with knees up), while the women straddle them on all fours. Each man orally pleasures a woman while she orally pleasures the next man in the ring. Manual pleasuring can also be used. (Alternatively, couples can lie on their sides, still with heads in one direction around the ring; only now, women look into the ring while men look out.)
In all cases, pleasuring methods taught in the Sacred Sex Lesson Forum should be used. Remember, the aim is not conventional orgasm. Rather, it is extended and expanded orgasm.
Same-sex couplings are also possible in these formations.
Circle of Desire rituals can accommodate any number of couples (typically five or more). They are especially suited to large groups. Concentric ring formations can be used where there are space limitations.
The significance of circle geometry is explained above. For more insight into the Circle of Desire, read Sacred Desire. For other insight, read Circle of Life and Journey of the Soul - Completing the Circle of Life.
Another common group theme is the star ritual. As the name suggests, these rituals are performed by arranging participants in a star pattern. Stars can be five or six pointed.
Star rituals typically consist of a single member of one gender together with five or six members of the opposite gender. One version places a man at the center of five women, whose yonis he pleasures with his lingam, two hands, and two feet.
To make a 6-pointed star, he pleasures another with his mouth. In this version, the women can hold hands, forming two interlocking triangles with points at:~ triangle 1 - lingam and two hands;
~ triangle 2 - mouth and two feet. The two women at the mouth & lingam kiss, linking the triangles.
The 5-pointed star can also feature a woman at the center, with five men around. She pleasures one lingam in her yoni, one in her mouth, two in her hands, and one in her rear.
The star ritual is known and practiced in the Tantra tradition of India, as shown in the images below, with males at the center. The first is a 5-pointed star, though here, a sixth woman sits on the man's lap:
from our Sacred Sex Art Archive
This image shows the full 6-pointed star ritual, featuring none other than the blue-god Krishna himself at the center:
from our Sacred Sex Art Archive
Of course, unless you're Krishna, star rituals are most easily performed with the central person on his or her back (the female version has her lying on her rear partner, at the edge of a bed).
Star rituals are typically limited to the number (and gender) of people indicated in the examples above. However, coupling rituals like those described for Circle of Desire are also possible, with couples simply arranged in a star pattern rather than circular. The 6-pointed star may be especially powerful due to its interlocking quality. Note though that this type of star ritual requires a fairly large number of couples to create the star form. An alternative is to draw or otherwise represent the star on the ground or floor, and have one couple sit at each point. An extra couple can sit at the center.
The important thing is that couples feel a sense of order and the sense of creating a star form. This amplifies the coherent effect of the ritual. How the form is made is less important. Improvise as needed.
Finally, other rituals, including Ecstatic Trance and Yoni Worship, both described in Sacred Sex Ritual in the Lesson Forum, can be performed in groups. Likewise, Lingam rituals can be performed by groups. All these can be performed as couples, with one partner honoring the other's sex organs or bringing the other to ecstatic trance. They can also be performed with a central figure (or a few), with the remaining group honoring and pleasuring that person's sex organs, or bringing him or her to ecstatic trance.
And of course, no special ritual format is needed at all. Assembled participants can simply enjoy group practice of sacred sex as taught in the Lesson Forum. What is important in group ritual is the collective attainment of extended and expanded orgasmic ecstasy, not a particular method of practice or sitting arrangement. Collective ecstasy, extended over long periods through sacred sex, generates powerful waves of coherence in the ritual participants and those around them.
There is strength in numbers. Group sacred sex ritual is the perfect way to power up your ecstasy.
The Society for Sacred Sexuality joyfully sponsors annual sacred sex rituals to coincide with the seasons. These unique group rituals allow you to participate in the privacy of your own home at the same time as other practitioners all over the world. This unique type of ritual creates a wave of coherence around the world, welcoming in each new season.
We warmly invite you to participate in these rituals, as posted here in the Sacred Sex Ritual Forum. Explanation and dates for each seasonal ritual are posted as follows:A count-down to the next ritual is posted here.

Does the idea of doing a Society for Sacred Sexuality group masturbation for Peace in ourselves our lover{s}/beloved{s}, our families and neighbors, our homes and neighborhoods, our cities and states, our country and world resonate with anyone and if so will you commit to accomplishing this? _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. The Society for Sacred Sexuality is definitely committed to supporting group sacred sex practice for world peace.
This is something that I see happening as our membership and the popularity of sacred sex grows.
Personally, I feel that partnered practice is better than self-pleasuring for this type of effect, because there is built-in giving & sharing in the love act, as opposed to the more personal self-pleasuring. But you bring up a good point -- that sacred sex, and its positive effects, can be enjoyed with any number of partners, including none, as taught here. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |

What I envison is an ecstatic wave moving across the country say from East to West at a given time so that it is a wave which builds momentum{ i.e. 8 p.m in each time zone not 8p.m. in a specific time zone}
I personally use masturbation in my prayer ministry sending that transmuted sexual energy and the peace it gives to those whom I love and care for. It was during one of these "ecstatic prayer" sessions that this idea dawned on me. Of course couples can pray together to build the amplitude. Christ taught "Wherever two or more are together in my name there am I in their midst" I know this will be a tremendously powerful prayer as MANY will be gathered sending ecstatic peace to all and Christ is The Prince of Peace so this will be done in His name _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. Ok so we agree this is a good idea. How about we set a day and time , invite as many other sex positive folks as possible and do it. Talking and agreeing is fine how about some action? Then we can see how it goes . "Money talks and bull crap walks" Lets's get this beyond the good idea stage . _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu |

The Society for Sacred Sexuality agrees to sponsor the event. Russ, you're appointed project coordinator. Tell us what you have in mind.
I have an idea for a date, but I need to check on a few things before finalizing it -- I will post here when I do. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |

We select a day and time after soliciting feed back from those in S.S.S. who choose to participate in this ecstatic prayer and blessing for Peace in the form of a progessive wave of love and peace through self/partner /group sexual ectasy focused for this purpose. We will create the wave by doing this at a given time in each time zone . We start the wave at x time in the eastern time zone and moving west through the time zones to as far as there are folks to pick it up and send it on at that time in each time zone.
We can present it to other online sacred sex forums and to local/regional/national sacred sex oriented groups in the form of an invitation to join us in this ecstatic prayer and blessing for peace on X day at X time
Let's choose a date and time which gives sufficient time for in vitations to be given and planning for participation made. _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu |

Sounds perfect, Russ.
I'm still looking into something that may give the ritual a specific focus in addition to or in place of the general peace theme, but the basic idea is great.
People can do their sacred sex practice as they wish, according to their own training/experience, or as taught by the Society for Sacred Sexuality in our Lessons Forum.
I suggest we invite everyone to light a candle and have it burn nearby during their practice, as a common link to everyone else in the ritual. It will stand for Truth, Light, Freedom, Ecstasy, and Peace. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |

Sacred Sex Ritual Posted: September 26, 2005 |
|
|
Here is the latest on the Sacred Sex Ritual: we have the opportunity, if everyone agrees, to dedicate the ritual to a member of our sacred sex community who is about to go on trial for violation of sex laws resulting from her professional sacred sex practice. As everyone knows, the Society for Sacred Sexuality strongly supports the rights of sacred sex teachers to lawfully practice their profession (see the Legal Sacred Sex Forum). I propose that we dedicate our ritual to her successful trial outcome, and hold the ritual on her trial date of October 5, 2005 (Wednesday).
Following is an invitation, adapted from one suggested by Russ -- copy & paste the text below, and email it to friends and post it on appropriate websites:
The Society for Sacred Sexuality invites you to join us in a Sacred Sex Ritual that we are calling "Love & Light Ecstasy". The ritual will unite Love & Light, as embodied by Male & Female in Sacred Union. Women will uphold Love Energy, and men will uphold the Light of Consciousness.
We will offer the ritual for Sacred Union in ourselves and intimate ones, our families, friends, neighborhoods, cities, states, countries, and our world through sacred sex ecstasy. Join us in creating an ecstatic wave rolling from time zone to time zone, radiating orgasmic Love & Light throughout the world. Individuals, couples, and groups are invited to participate in any way they wish, following their own sacred sex practice, or that taught by the Society for Sacred Sexuality, in the privacy of their own homes.
The Love & Light Ecstasy Ritual will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at 9PM in your local time zone, creating a sacred sex wave beginning in the east and gathering energy as it rolls west around the world. The significance of this date is that a member of our sacred sex community faces a legal challenge to her right to professionally teach sacred sex to paying clients -- our ritual aims to infuse enough Love into the world to uphold the Light of Truth and Justice, bringing a successful outcome to her case. We ask that during the ritual, you burn two candles - representing Love & Light (one to your left, the other to your right) - linking you in spirit to other ritual participants.
Please promote this event in your circle of friends, and invite everyone to join with us in the Love & Light Ecstasy Ritual.

I would like to point out that,... although this date has a significance to one member of the community (and we should definitely wish her luck),... we should not limit ourselves
We should remember that originally our member Russ requested,

...was intended for all in need.
Therefore, we should not lose sight of the fact that this sacred ritual will help all sentient beings in need and that we should feel free to think of anyone experiencing difficulties and suffering, with the intention that they will receive help (and fullfillment of all their desires) and experience enlightenment through whatever means is available to them.
May this orgasmic wave be helpful to all who are open to it... and open the hearts of those who are not, so they will also promote love and universal peace in their own way. _________________ To be able to love others, one must first learn how to love oneself. |

So, How did it feel? Posted: October 6, 2005 |
|
|
I'd be interested in knowing if those who participated in this group ritual
healing prayer felt or noticed anything different in their lovemaking and how the decision turned out for our sister member.
Intentional lovemaking: what is it like for you? Do you like it? Would you do it again?
My wife and I have used this many times and the feelings are much more expansive. In my personal ecstatic prayer sessions I have felt the focus very laser like and tremendously potent upon release in ecstasy. This session was deeply peaceful quiet and calm . The knowing that others were participating and a that an ocean was being created to wash into the consciousness and settle deep may account for the change for me. _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. October 6, 2005
On behalf of the Society for Sacred Sexuality, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the October 5 Sacred Sex Ritual. The ritual was a great success, both on the level of personal experience and in spreading the values of love and light in the world. In addition, the ritual did have a positive influence on the court case for our sacred sex teacher. She reports that the prosecution requested a trial delay due to lack of strength in their case.
I invite users to share their experiences during the ritual, and the Society for Sacred Sexuality looks forward to sponsoring many more such rituals in the future. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |

I personally felt deeply connected with other sacred sex practitioners who were participating in the ritual. There was a distinct softness to the love that was felt during the ritual. That continued for about an hour, then there was a freeing up & expression of a lot of deep passion, perhaps resulting from the ritual's focus on removing legal & social obstacles to sacred sex practice.
I also felt a clear sense of the sacred leading into the ritual, as though we were preparing for a momentous occasion.
One interesting trivia point: my partner's brother mentioned that a psychic had told him to pray every night at 9PM for a week, beginning a week before the ritual. This was without any knowledge of our planned Sacred Sex Ritual. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |

As I was writing my post this morning I had a strong feeling that it was delayed. Perhaps they will back off entirely. Let's continue to hold her and her situation in the Light of Truth . Love and Life and accept that true sacred sex teachers in her city and throughout the country will be free to serve without per/prosecution and that the charlatans will go elsewhere. _________________ To be loved deeply by someone gives you strength, to love someone deeply gives you courage. Ritual experience Posted: October 7, 2005 |

This was my first time, participating in this type of ritual. My experience was very powerful,.. even overwhelming and emotional, with tears in my eyes.
I felt not only connected to everyone's ecstasy, but also connected to sharing the other participant's karmas. A transient wave of fear passed through me, when I thought I might be influenced by other's bad karma, but I refocused my attention on our purpose and intention to let the ecstasy purify everyone's obstacles and relaxed into my partner's arms. My fear and the overwhelming feeling subsided.
Since I am relatively new at this, I feel fortunate to practice with a partner who is experienced,... who I can trust,... since his heart and intention are pure.
I'm looking forward to the next sacred ritual; although, I would like to think that we can have that beneficial, loving intention each and every time we make love or practice on our own. _________________ To be able to love others, one must first learn how to love oneself. |

That's a beautiful sentiment, and it brings up the point that sacred sex is a ritual - with benefit for those involved and for the world - each and every time it's practiced, whether the intention for that is there or not. Intention strengthens the act, but the act itself produces the effect.
Thank you for sharing your very sweet experience, Sita. _________________ Sexual union is a mirror of Spiritual Union, and a gateway to direct experience of it. |
